As part of its commitment to continuing education, the Heard Museum Guild presents several courses each year. The aim of the courses is to enhance one’s respect for Native peoples and to develop an appreciation of their art and culture. The courses are open to the public.

This course looks at the history of the west in two different areas. The first explores how the tensions, prejudices, stereotypes and attitudes developed in colonial times towards American Indians are imbedded in American culture. It also explores how the attitudes of two different American presidents, Ulysses S Grant and Andrew Jackson, impacted indigenous peoples.
There Second area explores the Fred Harvey Company's Santa Fe La Posada Hotel, it's architect Mary Coulter and its history from the 1930's to present day.
